Planning Division Responsibilities and Information

Lemon Grove Planning Division plans, documents, and applications may be found in the Planning Document Center.

Current planning information

Current Planning is where most residents and business owners will find answers to their questions. It is the first stop for obtaining information about how property can be used, what can be built on it, and where it can be built upon in Lemon Grove.  This is also where someone who is looking to open a business can determine where it is allowed.  This information is more focused on the day-to-day activities that are usually about using a specific, privately owned lot of land.  The following information would be considered current planning information:

• Answer zoning questions from the general public
• Process Discretionary Permit applications.
• Conduct site inspections
• Enforce the zoning regulations set forth in the Lemon Grove Municipal Code
• Monitor the implementation of the Lemon Grove General Plan
• Process applications for use permits, planned development permits, sign permits, and variances
• Process requests to divide property
• Reports to the City Council and Planning Commission
• Review building permit applications for conformance with zoning regulations
• Review business license applications for conformance with zoning regulations

Advanced planning information

typically involves larger scale issues that would impact groups or properties or have citywide impacts.  It includes changes to local plans and regulations that may be necessary to reflect City Council goals and comply with State law.  It also entails city involvement in regional groups.  The following responsibilities are considered future planning responsibilities.

• Propose amendments to the Lemon Grove General Plan and Municipal Code
• Coordinate regional planning efforts with the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG), the Metropolitan Transit System (MTS), and other regional groups
