The City of Lemon Grove’s next General Municipal Election will be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2026 for the purpose of electing the offices listed below.

The City Clerk is the City’s Election Official and oversees municipal elections, candidate filing, and compliance with election laws. Elections are held in even-numbered years. Lemon Grove is a General Law City with a five-member, at-large City Council. The City consolidates its elections with the County of San Diego.

Candidate Eligibility (At The Time Nomination Papers Are Issued)
- United States Citizen
- At least 18 years of age on or before Election Day
- A registered voter of the City of Lemon Grove and otherwise qualified to vote for the office at the time nomination papers are issued
- Not disqualified under California Elections Code section 20
Candidate Fees
- Candidate Statement (optional): Candidates who choose to print a statement in the County Voter Information Guide must pay the actual cost to the Registrar of Voters at filing
- Filing Fee: $25, due when nomination papers are filed with the City Clerk
- All filing and statement fees are non-refundable
Forms Required When Filing Nomination Papers
Official nomination papers are included in the nomination packet. During the nomination period, the City Clerk issues nomination packets to individuals interested in running for office in the City of Lemon Grove. Each packet contains information about the nomination process, filing requirements, and the forms required to become a candidate.
To qualify as a candidate, a prospective candidate must submit nomination papers containing the signatures of at least 20, but no more than 30, registered voters of the City of Lemon Grove. A $25 filing fee is also due when the completed nomination packet is filed with the City Clerk.
Candidates may also elect to file a Candidate Statement of Qualifications for inclusion in the voter information materials prepared by the San Diego County Registrar of Voters. Information regarding the estimated cost of the Candidate Statement of Qualifications will be included in the nomination packet, and all associated costs are the responsibility of the candidate.

Candidate Nomination Period
Every election begins with a “nomination period.” This is the period of time that begins 113 days before the day of the election and ends 88 days before election day. This is the only period of time during which you can obtain and return “nomination papers”, which are the forms you need to submit in order to run for office.
Candidate information packets will be available from the City Clerk’s Office beginning Monday, July 13, 2026 at 7:30 a.m. and continuing through Friday, August 7, 2026. Each packet includes nomination petitions and other forms required to run for office. To help ensure timely service, appointments are required. Compensation and Benefits for the Mayor and City Council
Effective December 2026, the Mayor will receive a monthly salary of $1,662.50.
Each Councilmember will receive a monthly salary of $950.00.
Additional benefits include $50,000 in life insurance, along with medical, vision, and dental coverage.

Voter Registration Information
Residents may register to vote at any time. If a qualified voter is not registered to vote and wants to vote in a particular election, the qualified voter must register at least 15 days before that election.
Voter registration requirements: U.S. citizen and 18 years of age on or before Election Day.
