In accordance with Election Code section 13112(b)(1)(C)(i), the Secretary of State's office conducted a randomized drawing of the letters of the alphabet to determine the order of candidate names on the ballot. Candidate's names listed below are in ballot order according to that drawing.

Candidate Statements

State law provides for a "public examination period" of all candidate statements (Elections Code Section 13313). Candidate Statements will be posted after the close of the Nomination Period.


The Public Examination Period for Candidate Statement's for the one (1) Mayoral Seat begins on Saturday, August 10, 2024 through Monday, August 19, 2024.


The Public Examination Period for Candidate Statement's for the two (2) Councilmember Seats commences on Thursday, August 15, 2024 and ends on Saturday, August 24, 2024.

Ballot Question

The approved question that will appear on the ballot is: 

To provide funding for city services in Lemon Grove, such as keeping local streets, sidewalks, stormdrains, parks, community facilities safe, clean, and well-maintained; fixing potholes; providing fire protection, paramedic, police, and 911 emergency response; traffic management; addressing homelessness; and removing graffiti/trash;  Shall City of Lemon Grove's ordinance establishing a one-cent sales  tax be adopted, providing $5,957,000 annually for 10 years, with citizen oversight, independent audits, and all money locally controlled?

FILING ARGUMENTS & REBUTTALS FOR THE MEASURE ON THE NOVEMBER 5, 2024 BALLOT

DEADLINES

Arguments must be submitted to the City Clerk and may be changed until and including the applicable deadline date, after which no arguments for or against the measure may be submitted, withdrawn or changed.

·        Primary Arguments in Favor of and Against: August 15, 2024, 5:00 p.m.

·     Rebuttals Thereto: August 20, 2024, 5:00 p.m.

PRIMARY ARGUMENTS

Each argument may have from one to five signers.

Argument signers must sign the Statement AND the argument. Please refer to California Elections Code Sections 9600, 9283 and 9285. A primary argument is limited to 300 words (words are counted pursuant to California Elections Code Section 9). There are only two acceptable headings for arguments (California Elections Code Section 9282).

Please TYPE the names of the signers at the end of the argument and on the forms. Each signer must sign the argument itself and the Statement form. Although every attempt will be made to follow your instructions, shifting the names and titles around is necessary to meet space requirements.

REBUTTAL ARGUMENTS

If an argument in favor of and an argument against the measure have been selected to be printed in the voter information guide, the City Clerk will “trade” arguments with the authors on both sides shortly after the filing deadline to prepare rebuttal arguments.

Argument signers must sign the Statement AND the rebuttal argument.

Rebuttal arguments are limited to 250 words (words are counted pursuant to California Elections Code Section 9). There are only two acceptable headings for rebuttals. Please include the appropriate heading above your text.

REBUTTAL TO THE ARGUMENT AGAINST MEASURE

Please TYPE the names of the signers at the end of the argument and on the forms. Each signer must sign the argument itself AND the attached form. Although every attempt will be made to follow your instructions, shifting the names and titles around is sometimes necessary to meet space requirements.

The author or a majority of the authors of the argument may submit the rebuttal argument or may authorize in writing another person or persons to prepare, submit, or sign the rebuttal argument (California Elections Code Section 9285).

PUBLIC EXAMINATION PERIODS

The California Elections Code provides for a 10-calendar-day examination period during which any voter in the jurisdiction or the elections official may seek a writ of mandate or an injunction requiring any or all of the materials to be amended or deleted. The writ of mandate or injunction request shall be filed no later than the end of the 10-calendar-day public examination period.

The 10-day public examination periods are as follows:

Ballot Measure Timeline

On Tuesday, July 16, 2024 the City Council voted and adopted Resolution No. 2024-4040 to place the measure on the November 2024 Ballot. The following deadlines apply for Arguments for and Against the Measure, Rebuttals and the dates for public examination is provided below.
