Construction Demolition & Debris

Construction and Demolition (C&D) Debris means discarded materials removed from the project site during construction or demolition operations. C&D Debris includes asphalt, concrete, brick, lumber, sheet rock, tile, cardboard, and metals. Land Clearing Debris includes dirt, rocks, shrubs, trees, or other woody landscape materials.

All projects are required to recycle a minimum of 75% of the C&D Debris (by weight) and 100% of the Land Clearing Debris. The C&D ordinance went into effect on December 1, 2005, and was updated in May 2011, to assist the City with meeting its diversion requirement mandated by the California Integrated Waste Management Act of 1989 (AB939).
