Public Records Request

Welcome to the City of Lemon Grove's Public Records Request Page!

The California State Legislature adopted the Public Records Act in 1968. It is designed to give the public access to information in the possession of public agencies. The Act also provides that public records shall be open for inspection during regular office hours of the agency. The public can inspect or receive a copy of any record unless the record is exempted from disclosure under the act. Additionally, the City Council has adopted the "Working with Public Records Request" policy via Resolution No. 2018-3918 adopted on November 20, 2018.

Fees and Charges

Documents and materials within the possession of the Office of the City Clerk that are available in electronic format will be provided without charge, when feasible. Fees for paper copies, CDs, audio tapes are established by the City's Master Fee Schedule.

Records Request Processing Times

The City will determine whether it has disclosable records within 10 days after receiving your request. In some instances, depending on the complexity of the request, the City may take a 14-day extension in which to conduct a search to determine whether responsive records exist.

If disclosable records exist, the City will make every effort to provide responsive non-exempt records within a reasonable timeframe; however, response times will vary depending on the types and volume of records requested and the scope or timeframe of the request.

Please note that certain records kept by the City may not be disclosed because the records are exempt from disclosure by law. Review the California Public Records Act, Government Code section 7920.000 et seq., for details about documents that are exempt from public disclosure.
