Connect Mainstreet

About the Project

The City of Lemon Grove has begun the Connect Main Street Project, a multi-phased project that seeks to transform an approximately two-mile stretch of Main Street from Broadway to the southern City limits. Connect Main Street seeks to create a community corridor that supports active lifestyles and transportation choices by providing a safe, beautiful linear parkway with walking and biking paths and park-related activity areas.  The City of Lemon Grove received approximately $4 million in funding from SANDAG (2020 SANDAG TransNet Smart Growth Improvement Program Grant) and California Natural Resources Agency (Green Infrastructure Grant) for Phases 1-2 and 3.

The Connect Main Street Project is split into seven (7) phases. Construction for Phases 1-2, and 3 are underway.  The Project overview for the phases currently under construction (Phases 1-2, and 3) is below:

  1. Phase 1:  is funded through the SANDAG TransNet Smart Growth Improvement Program Grant.  The limits of the work are from Broadway to Central. The work includes a Class II bike facility, restriping in front of City Hall, and installing two landscape planters.

  2. Phase 2: is funded through the SANDAG TransNet Smart Growth Improvement Program Grant. The limits of the work are from Central Ave to San Miguel Ave. The work includes a Class II bike facility, DG trail, on-street parking, landscape and irrigation, pedestrian crossing at Burnell Ave, MTS pedestrian crossing at Central Ave, street lighting, traffic calming measures, and stormwater improvements.

  3. Phase 3: is funded through the California Natural Resources Agency Green Infrastructure Grant. The limits of the work are from San Miguel to Buena Vista. The work includes a Class II bike facility, DG trail, landscape and irrigation, and stormwater improvements.

This work will improve several pedestrian enhancements and create a corridor that will connect people, places, and activities for generations to come. While this work will be an inconvenience in the short term, this necessary rehabilitation will dramatically improve the quality of life for the community when completed.

Construction Impacts

During the 10-month project, there will be major impacts to residents on Main Street. The City asks that you be patient during this work and to know that your quality of life will be improved once the project is complete. These impacts will include:
